Welcome, and thanks for stopping by!
Let me tell you a little about Bubba...
Bubba is a fictional character created by your humble webmaster.
He is based on several actual persons I have known, and several notable TV characters...Jed Clampett, Archie Bunker (a Redneck's Redneck if I ever saw one.), and Al Bundy.
Bubba is kind, with a great heart, but can be compared to Al Capp's Dogpatch character, Joe Btfsplk, who wanted to be a loving friend but was "the world's worst jinx", bringing bad luck to all those nearby. Btfsplk always had a small dark cloud over his head.
If you wish to imagine what Bubba looks like, as I do, just imagine Al Bundy in bib overalls, with a big 'chaw' of Beech-Nut, and wearing a gimme cap (A cloth cap with a bill, adorned with the name of an organization or a product logo) ! Chewing tobacco is not Bubba's only vice. He has been known to enjoy a sip of whiskey from time to time, but you will most likely find him sober.
Bubba lives in the present day, in a fictional community called "Heartland". Heartland is an unincorporated community of about 250, with only a few businesses. One of those "Don't blink or you'll miss it." places. The nearest city of any size is the county seat, "Mayfield", about a half-hour's drive away.
Bubba and his wife own and operate "Bubba's Barbecue and General Store", the most popular business in Heartland. It's a smallish, wooden building with 2 gas pumps in front. The barbecue part of the business has 3 tables, with a counter and window for ordering. There's a small cinder-block pit-room out back, where Bubba cooks shoulders, ribs, chops and brisket. If Bubba has any claim to fame, it's that he knows how to make excellent barbecue, the old-fashioned way, having learned from his grandfather.
Bubba has a married daughter, "Punkin", a son-in-law, "Knothead", and a 2 year old grandson, "Jaybird".
Bubba and his wife live about a mile from the store, down a gravel road. The property is almost 12 acres, comprised of hilly woodland, where Bubba hunts raccoons frequently, to barbecue and serve in the restaurant.
The store carries just the essentials, as well as Bubba's famous "Secret Sauce". When he makes the Secret Sauce, Bubba gets up in the wee hours, locks all the doors, closes and drapes all the windows. He's determined that no one will steal his secret recipe, handed down from his grandfather.
He makes 2 'flavors' of his sauce. Mild, (Grandpa's only recipe) which everyone uses at the barbecue joint, and HOT, (Bubba's original recipe) which Bubba himself loves, but is WAY, WAY too hot for anyone else, containing Cayenne, Jalapeño, and Habanero peppers!!
Bubba is certain that someday, someone will 'discover' his secret sauces and make him a millionaire.
Bubba's wife "Honey" is a small woman with a big personality, and she rules the roost at home. She is also responsible for the success of Bubba's Barbecue and General Store, majoring in Business in High School.
Honey doesn't let Bubba get away with much, not that he doesn't try. You see, Bubba has an aversion to real work, preferring to cook (alone), and hunt and fish with his buddy "Ed".
I'm going to tell you lots of stories about Bubba. We'll also explore the history of barbecue, some good recipes, and more. It should be interesting.
Now that you know a little about Bubba, remember that all the characters here are fictitious, and any similarity to any actual person or persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
OK, from here on out, it's Bubba's website!
